I really dont think it gets any easier than this for a simple and delicious meal! Only four ingredients. Yep, that's it. This is my go-to dish to make on weeknights after I've had a long day at work. My kids just love it, and they are the pickiest eaters on the planet! Pasta... Cheese.... It has 'Kid-Friendly' written all over it! : )
The recipe comes from my favorite cookbook I always talk about, The Food Nanny. Her recipe calls for a homemade Alfredo sauce that she makes. It is amazing, but when I'm in a hurry and dont have a lot of time to make dinner, I just use a bottled Alfredo sauce. It works out perfectly.
I believe another reason I love The Food Nannys cookbook so much is because a lot of the book has menu planning and preparation ideas. It is what gave me the idea to plan out meals for a week or two in advance, so I always have homemade meals to make my family. I remember when I used to go to the grocery store with absolutley no idea what I was going to make for any meals. I would spend a couple hundred dollars on a bunch of odds and ends, and we would always end up eating out or grabbing fast food. It was such a waste of money.
Now before I go to the store, I will plan all of my meals and write down all the ingredients I need. I will also go through my pantry and fridge to see if I already have some of the items I'll need to prevent me from buying what I already have. It has been such a money saver! : )
Red and White Pasta
8 Servings
- 1 pound box Penne Pasta
- 1 (26 oz) jar meatless Spaghetti Sauce
- 1 (16 oz) jar Alfredo Sauce
- 3 cups shredded Mozzerella Cheese
Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Boil and cook pasta in a large pot of water according to package directions. Drain.
In a 9x13 glass baking dish, spread 1/2 cup of spaghetti sauce on bottom. Pour half of the cooked pasta on top. Pour half the alfredo sauce, half the spaghetti sauce and 1 cup of cheese evenly over pasta. Repeat with remaining pasta, sauces and cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes or until hot & bubbly!

That's it! I'm making this tomorrow. Hands down making this! You know the funny thing, my friend at work was telling me about mixing Alfredo and regular sauce together and I told her I'd never heard of it, and then I see your post tonight. Oh how I love pasta, this is calling my name FOR SURE! Oh I could reach in the screen and take a bite!
I'm loving this. Looks wonderful. Happy Tuesday.
I have made this before! Except I think in mine, I mixed the sauces together and combined with the pasta, 1/2 the mozz cheeze, then topped with the other half and baked. We loved, loved, LOVED it! I can't believe we haven't had it since! I think the sauce is lovely enough that you caould add chicken, shrimp, sausage, or anything else. I totally use Trader Joe's jarred Alfredo sauce. Beautiful!!! Thanks for reminding me of this super yummy recipe!
This is making me hungry! It looks so good and easy to make. I've never tried mixing marinara with alfredo. I may have to give this a shot since I'm a total pasta addict :)
The best way to eat pasta is with mixing the sauces ! so good =)
Oh that is a good idea to use alfredo AND marinara sauce! I just love meals like this for a busy week too. Because you want to make something really good but you just don't want to dirty another pot trying to make your own sauce! Love it Hol!!
So easy! That's for me! Thanks for sharing this, my friend!
That looks wonderful and easy. I am all for that.
So comforting and yummy looking! I love such pasta casseroles.
Cheers,
Rosa
Looks terrific! I've never mixed those two sauces together before...I will have to try this soon. Soo glad you shared!
This sounds delicious. Julia Child used to make a lasagna that used both sauces. It was delicious as I'm sure your dish must be. Have a wonderful evening. Blessings...Mary
Now I'm drooling...this looks so good and so easy! I'll be making this this weekend!
Hey Holly, Check your email!!!! Tonya :)
This looked so simple I had to try it. I made a regular version and a lower fat one. Both came out great. Well, I told everyone about it. I could not believe how flavorful this is. I ended up making this for a crowd by doubling the recipe. It was a nice alternative to the baked ziti everyone always serves. Thanks Holly, this is a great comfort food and a crowd pleaser!
It look Good to see the pasta And thanks for sharing the recipe
LOVED it! I don't like to cook more than I have to. Tried it and it was a hit. I asked the family if I should make it again and they said yes! I write down the different sauces/brands to find out the ones I like the most (due to grocery sales etc). Thanks for posting it :)
THIS WAS AMAZING! I made it when I was nannying for a family for a week and all the kids loved it and I am making it right now for my family! Thanks for posting!
Thank you for sharing this with all of us! This is one of our families favorites, and that is saying a lot for my lil picky eaters!
